Homemade Coconut Oil Soap Recipe
Ingredients needed:
- 350 grams of olive oil.
- 250 grams of coconut oil.
- 90 grams of bleach (sodium hydroxide).
- 1/3 cup oat flakes.
- 1 tablespoon of ground coffee.
- 220 grams of coffee.
Equipment:
- Stainless steel thermometer.
- Kitchen scale.
- Gloves, protective glasses, mask.
- Stainless steel saucepan.
- Blender.
- Stainless steel container.
- Silicone spatula.
- Towel.
- Wax paper.
- Plastic molds.
Note: Any container or utensil that comes in contact with sodium hydroxide should be used for soap making only.
Process:
1. Measure and mix
Measure the ingredients into separate bowls using a scale. Use the stainless steel container for the coconut oil. You must be in a well-ventilated area wearing protective gear. Add the lye to the pot in that order, not the other way around, and wait until it dissolves. There will be a chemical reaction that will heat the mixture. Set it aside and remove your mask and goggles if you want, but not your gloves.
2. Emulsify
Olive oil should be added after the coconut oil has melted. Check the temperature of the mixture with a stainless steel thermometer and compare it to the temperature of the sodium hydroxide (lye) solution. Adjust the temperatures of both in the range of 100 to 110 degrees (The difference between the temperatures should be 1 to 2 degrees).
Once this is done, pour the lye solution into the oil mixture and use the mixer to emulsify until the mixture begins to thicken to a pudding-like consistency. When the consistency of the soap thickens, add the coffee grounds and rolled oats with a stainless steel spoon or spatula.
Use small molds to shape them and keep them in the fridge for later use, so they last longer and their properties are not lost. With this we can already have our homemade soaps that are beneficial for the skin.
