Baking soda and coconut oil, when mixed together, are great for washing your face. Exfoliating the skin has become increasingly popular among women and men.
The slightly abrasive nature of baking soda and coconut oil removes dead skin cells to create a new texture, promotes blood flow, and cleanses pores.
The advantages of making homemade scrubs
With increasing awareness about the environmental impact of plastic microspheres found in popular exfoliating products, it’s definitely worth considering more eco-friendly, non-toxic skincare options.
Why use baking soda and coconut oil?
This combination is ideal for penetrating deep into your pores to prevent acne and blackheads.
Sodium bicarbonate
Baking soda is amphoteric, meaning it neutralizes ph imbalances by acting as either an acid or a base. PH imbalance is one of the main causes of acne, dry skin, and pimples.
Baking soda also treats inflammation and redness of the skin and minimizes the size of pimples.
coconut oil
Coconut oil is an incredibly nourishing moisturizer with antibacterial and antiviral properties. It can also treat skin conditions like eczema and dry skin. It will even heal wounds, and is great for acne-prone skin.
Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer and a good anti-inflammatory.. “Its use for eczema is becoming more widespread,” says Ted Lain, a dermatologist in Austin, Texas.
“The combination of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and moisturizing properties make it truly unique,” says Whitney P Bowe, a dermatologist in Westchester, New York.
Coconut oil is mainly saturated fat and contains medium chain fatty acids, which not only help regenerate the skin, but also create a barrier in which you trap water, thus hydrating the skin.
